Muldoon's Logs: The Real Jurassic Park

When fiction becomes reality

The Overview:

Ali Alwada is the director and animator of the fan-made analog horror show, Muldoon’s Log. This show is a perfect blend of reality, movie reality, and book reality. For those who do not recognize the name Muldoon, what rock do you live under? And I'm sorry, kicking off the roof of your proverbial rock house. Robert Muldoon is part of the cast of Jurassic Park, one of the best franchises in history. Noted how I said Jurassic Park, not Jurassic World. I’ll explain more in the ‘My Thoughts’ Section. Muldoon’s Log is based mostly on the brainchild of Michael Crichton, Jurassic Park. Ali Alwada does take some inspiration from the movies; the storyline follows the books. It very much embraces the horrors that lace each page of the original book. 

But why does Muldoon decide to record this log? Muldoon decided he was sick and tired of no one believing that the dinosaurs are dangerous. And since InGen is not taking responsibility, Muldoon will make sure that they will be held accountable. Especially when it comes to the raptors. There have been raptors appearing outside of their paddocks, even though all is accounted for.  Slowly, more than just the raptors start causing chaos. 

We do get some glimpses of Isla Sorna. Muldoon talks to one of the Sorna scientists, learning more about the behavior of the dinosaurs and experimenting on new things. These scenes are crucial in discerning security camera footage and moments where it's someone less knowledgeable holding the camera. 

We also meet the lovable Robbie. Muldoon's right-hand man and feet on the ground. He is very much a fan favorite. From the moment I learned he named the cow in episode one, Bessie. He’s usually the one who runs face first into the horrors of the park. 

So most of the knowledge is learned through Muldoon, and then experienced through Robbie. This creates an intense dynamic of the viewer knows everything, but the characters don’t. For viewers who have read the books, it gets even more intense because you know what will happen.

My Thoughts:

I love Muldoon’s Log. This is the show that got me back into Analog Horror and Dinosaurs. It’s highly intense and left me curled in on my blanket. It has also left me yelling at my laptop, calling everyone an idiot, because they weren’t doing things right. 

The animations are done beautifully, and I’m impressed that this is all done by one person. The storylines are well kept, and characters are consistent, which is impressive for any story, especially shows. It’s difficult to keep anything straight; Alwada did a great job with it. The intense scenes are very well done. They focus on animalistic hunting, chases, and heart-thumping moments. They don’t rely on violence or blood to give you that scare

I love how movie accurate the dinosaurs are. I do prefer the real dinosaurs and not the skin-wrapped ones; I will take any dinosaur horror. There are not very many dinosaur horror anything. Most dinosaur media are kid shows or more fantastical than anything else. Prehistoric horror is something that has been untapped. Thankfully, more media is coming out from the genre. I’m even tapping into the industry with my own chapbook (insert shameless plug). More info on that later.

The Graph:

Language: 15% - There is some mild cursing. But it is far and few between.

Explicit Material: 0% - None.

Violence/Fear: 65% - It does get very, very, intense and there is some gore. While there are some scenes that are obviously not dangerous, you can't help but have that sense of fear in the back of your head.

Drug/Alcohol use: 5% - I honestly think there is one scene where Muldoon has whiskey.

Non-problematic: 15% - There are some great less stressful scenes, but you do always have that dread in chest knowing something that will happen.

Isla Sorna

Isla Sorna is the place of experiments. From testing behaviors between male and female dinosaurs, observing interspecies relationships and doing some other unsavory experiments. You learn a lot about Tyranosourus and how they work better with the opposite gender, and raptor courting behaviors. Both are vital for the viewers when they are with Robbie. 

The Raptors

For those who read the book, you know exactly what is happening with the raptors. They are breeding and they are outside the cage. I don’t know how Muldoon’s Logs will end but I know if they follow the plot of the book, the cave won’t be found out until the events of Jurassic Park. So we shall see.

Robbie's Plot Armor

Robbie doesn’t die at this point. So far. I don’t know if Alwada will kill off Robbie, but I do know this. Robbie isn’t in the movies… so. Take that as you will. So far Robbie’s plot armor is solid surviving a Triceratops and a Metricanthosaurus attack. But the question stans. How long will this plot armor stay on?

The Use of AI

Ali Alwada is not a stranger to AI. While Muldoon’s Log has minimal AI usage, it sill has AI in it. My problem is not the the filters that he uses to make the logs feel like an old school VHS feel or the texturing its the voice acting. I know it’s difficult to mimc peoples voices and hiring the original actors is out of the question as a small creators. My issue lies with the lack of a human voice actor for Robbie. It throws me off when he talks, because how AIed his voice is. I really wish the Alwada got a real voice actor for him.
